Krewe Community Involvment
Krewe players can be found (in groups and as individuals) all over the Tampa Bay community, sporting the team's colors and assisting with volunteer organizations of all kinds.
These organizations include the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, American Association of Kidney Patients, Easy Street Animal Sanctuary, Chasco High School Football Boosters, Largo Middle School Swim Team Boosters, Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce, American Heart Association and the American Cancer Society. Krewe also has a continuing commitment to educating young athletes (boys and girls), ages 17 and under, to the basic skills, fitness and team building of rugby.
Krewe Rugby Youth Clinic
The Tampa Bay Krewe Rugby Team hosted a free Youth Rugby Clinic on May 18, 2008
at the Northdale Soccer Fields in Tampa, FL. The clinic was run by Ian Smith, on
loan from the Ivel Barbarians Rugby Football Club in England. He was aided by Tampa
Krewe Assistant-Coach Brad Davis, current Krewe players, and other local rugby coaches.
The over thirty young rugby players came from the Bradenton Bulldogs, the Bay Area
Pelican Under-19 Rugby Club, and other high school players from all over Hillsborough
County. The young players ran through drills and tactics with the help of the expert
coaching staff and then ended the day with a spirited scrimmage where they were
able to put to use the skills they had just learned. It was an excellent experience
for all involved. The Tampa Krewe would like to thank Ian Smith and all the coaching
staff for putting on an enjoyable clinic, and a big thanks to all the young players
who made it so worthwhile. Rugby is one of the fastest growing sports in Florida,
and the Tampa Krewe are proud to support that effort.
